Art Lovers’ Soirée, Show & Sale
The St Catharines Art Association hosted their first annual Art Lovers’ Show and Sale at Hernder Estate Wines on Family Day weekend (February 13-15) in 2016. The charming pine-panelled chateau room was filled with original paintings by local artists ranging from watercolours and acrylics to oils and mixed media. The variety was abundant, and included photography, woodcarving, and even steel mesh. The rooms were filled with still lifes and landscapes, portraits and abstracts, and dreamy, contemplative, and whimsical abstracts. There was something for everyone at prices everyone could afford.
The Art Lovers’ Soirée, an evening of entertainment, food, wine, and a live auction was held the night before, on Friday, February 12th to kick off the weekend’s show and sale. Guests mingled in the tastefully decorated hall enjoying complimentary glasses of Hernder’s fine Reisling and Baco Noir wines, which paired beautifully with the platters of fruits, cheeses, hot hors d’oeuvres, and later on, pulled pork and roast beef sliders. Hernder’s signature cocktail was dubbed Monet’s Kiss for the festive evening, a particularly pleasant treat for guests to sip on while tapping their toes to Mike McNally’s jazz favourites and feasting their eyes on the bounty of art on display, including the large, live auction entries as well as medium-paintings and silent auction entries. Christopher Blake held the audience in thrall, and in stitches, as he introduced and led the live auction, and Elise LeGrow rounded out the evening with two sets of hip ‘n’ happenin’ contemporary jazz.
Talk about great fun, great entertainment, great food and wine, and even greater art. Don’t miss it next year!
